Debates over identity politics and the left

Sunday 12:00 PM

Identity politics has become common sense on the left, where the lived experience of the oppressed are central in understanding and fighting oppression. This seems like an unobjectionable way of ensuring that those who face oppression are not marginalised in movements about them. However, identity politics comes along with a series of theories and strategies that socialists think are counter-productive in challenging racism, sexism and other oppressions and practically undermine working class solidarity which is crucial to these movements.
