Aboriginal land, union solidarity: The Noonkanbah fight for justice
Saturday 10:00 AM
When the WA government approving drilling for oil on Aboriginal land at Noonkanbah in the Kimberley in 1979, the Noonkanbah community's determined stand and the solidarity shown by the union movement caused a political crisis for the government. This saw blockaded roads, unionists arrested, and truck drivers and drillers refusing to work. This session will explore the epic Noonkanbah dispute, and how and why this union solidarity came about.
